Sun, sand, cocktails and fresh fruits, that’s the spirit of this season. It’s summer which means that we are all massively heading to the beach and stocking up on our vitamin D reserves. Summer also means that our skincare completely changes in comparison to that of winter. Every season has its own perks and challenges! So what are the skincare essentials for summer?

Summer is the epitome of a less is more approach when it comes to skincare. Let’s focus on letting the skin breathe a little!

SPF

SPF being on the skincare essentials list for summer is no shock. Although many people know the importance of wearing sunscreen, it’s never bad to emphasize it. SPF is a MUST during the warmer months since it protects the skin from UV. Wearing sunscreen regularly helps prevent sun-damage and premature aging. SPF is also beneficial in evening out dark spots and even preventing them all together. The point in which sunscreen gets tricky is when it comes to reapplying. When using sunscreen it’s important to reapply multiple times to actually benefit from its protection. It’s also very important to keep in mind that SPF 10 is simply not enough! Try opting for a sunscreen that’s SPF 30 or even higher.

Here are examples of sunscreens that have good coverage: La Roche-Posay SPF 50+ Invisible Fluid, Relief Sun: Rice + Probiotics SPF 50+, Beauty of Joseon Matte Sunstick SPF 50+

Cleanser

When it comes to cleansing it truly does not matter in what season we are! Cleansing is always a very important step in the skincare routine and an essential for summer skincare. Our pores tend to get clogged during the day and by cleansing twice a day that can be prevented. That way sweat, oil and other impurities get removed. During the summer months it can be better to use a lighter cleanser that doesn’t try out the skin too much, since the sea and sun tend to do that already. Opting for lighter cleansers is recommended.

Some examples of good cleansers are: CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, La Roche-Posay Hydrating Gentle Cleanser, Neutrogena Hydroboost gentle cleansing lotion.

Moisturizer

Moisturizing is something that should be done, even in the summer. It’s not necessary to use heavy creams such as during the winter. A lightweight moisturizer is recommended for the summer months.

For example: The INKEY List Omega Water Cream, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel, CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion With SPF.
